When the global markets trade gold do they actually move it or does it stay in the same location?

A tremendous amount is traded on the global market. When trades are made does the actual gold get moved between countries or does the vast majority of it stay in the same location and just the ownership change?

It’s all done on paper. However a country has the right to demand the gold if it so desires. But that is unlikely.
